For the past year or so I’ve been pitching magazines as consistently as I can, because travel writing is something I’ve always wanted to do.
Breaking into this world is not easy. Tons of people dream of being paid and recognized for writing about one of the most meaningful human experiences: exploring the world. But like most things worth pursuing, it comes down to persistence.
So when I came across the Write Away travel writing contest hosted by Tablet Hotels, I decided to give it a real shot.
When I saw that Hotel Nelligan in Montreal was part of their hotel collection, I immediately knew what I wanted to write about. I wrote about a trip I took to Montreal not long after becoming a mom, and what that experience meant to me at that moment in my life.

I spent a lot of time shaping that essay, and I waited very patiently for the results.
I’m incredibly grateful to share that my story was selected as one of the contest winners. It was chosen among many thoughtful submissions and awarded one of Tablet’s special prizes, along with a $500 Tablet Hotels credit, which I’m very excited to use on a future stay.
You can read the essay here:
Moments like this are encouraging, especially when you’re working quietly toward something you really care about
I’m so very grateful to Tablet Hotels for reading my story and recognizing it. And if anything, this moment reminds me that consistency matters.
This feels like a big step forward and the beginning of something amazing!
